AFB Welch Properties is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting domestic violence victims, the economically disadvantaged, elderly and disabled acquire safe, affordable housing.

AFB Welch Properties’ aim is to assist those in dire need of a place to live in order to get back on their feet or who need a new start. The majority of our homes are for rent and are a temporary solution to those in the community who have fallen upon hard times. We do offer, on a case-by-case basis more permanent solutions to those in the community.

We offer four main programs to the community, The Safe House, The Bridge, The Stepping Stone, and Community Co-Op.

Stepping Stones to a Brighter Future

AFB Welch Properties was founded in 2020 in the middle of the COVID-19 global pandemic. During this time many were struggling to keep a roof over their families head, domestic violence and child abuse cases surged, and homeless shelters became packed. Individuals who are willing to pay rent, but simply could not afford “the going rate” were left with little to no options. With so many homes vacant, and so many possibilities and the eagerness to help, AFB Welch was created to give those individuals another option.

We are in need of skilled individuals

Just like a loving family, our goal is to assist those in the community by creating stepping stones so they can create that brighter future for themselves

What is AFB Welch Properties?

We are a nonprofit organization whose aim is to help those in the community who are disabled, disadvantaged, and victims of domestic violence find affordable, safe housing. The properties we offer to those in need are in areas that are considered safe, that have low crime rates, have a good neighborhood watch system, etc. so we do our research on these areas first before we decide to look in that area for property.

Some of our properties also come with added security features such as steel doors, security systems, and large dogs are allowed on certain properties. We also offer some landscaping and snow removal services for certain residents based on their needs.

AFB Welch wants those who come under our wing of support to feel like a part of a family. And when a family member needs help, here at AFB Welch, we all pitch in to help fill that need.

How does AFB Welch help the community?

We help those who are in shelters, such as domestic violence victims, find housing so they don’t need to stay in shelters. In addition, those who are low income can find affordable housing in a safe area for their families and not feel forced to have to live in an unsafe area just to be able to afford rent. For the elderly and disabled who are on fixed incomes or have special needs, we work hard to find solutions for their housing needs so they too can feel independent and safe in their community.

What is the History of AFB Welch?

The founder, working as a debt specialist, was motivated by concern for the growing number of disabled individuals, disadvantaged families, and domestic violence victims who weren’t able to provide safe and affordable housing for their families. Together with private corporations, community leaders, and concerned volunteers of every trade she formed AFB Welch Properties, a not-for-profit organization that is focused on tackling the problem of constructive homelessness—people forced to live in places that are unsafe and in structures that are inadequately maintained.

Who can volunteer with AFB Welch?

We love our volunteers at AFB Welch! Whenever you volunteer with AFB Welch you are treated like a member of the family because you are offering your time to help someone else in need, and that’s what a family does.

Ages 13 and up can volunteer.

We have a need for those who can do simple tasks such as cutting grass, shoveling snow, to more experienced tasked such as electrical, carpentry, flooring, security system installation, etc. You name it! In addition, depending on age, we also will teach certain skills if we have a need for more help in certain areas or on a certain project.

For the safety of our families in need and others, we do not accept volunteers with criminal backgrounds, and we will have to perform a detailed background check. For more information please contact us.

What Programs Does AFB Welch Offer?

We offer four main programs to the community, The Safe House, The Bridge, The Stepping Stone, and Community Co-Op.

The Safe House Program is intended for victims of domestic violence who need added security to their living conditions. This is often ideal when the abuser intends physical harm once the victim has left the home. The homes and locations provided have added security features in order to protect the victim from further abuse.

The Bridge Program is intended for individuals who need temporary housing for a year or less. We can offer lease options on a month-to-month basis, 3 months, 6 months, or one year. This is often ideal for those who may have other options close in the future but need a “Bridge” until that option is available.

The Stepping Stone Program is for those who are in need of a more than one-year lease option. This is ideal for those who are on fixed incomes, etc.

The Community Co-Op Program is for those who, once accepted into one of the housing programs, need further assistance. Together with other community leaders, we offer assistance in various areas such as clothing, food, furniture, legal, counseling, medical, etc.

Please fill out an application and based on what is available and your qualifications, and we will place you in one or more of these programs.
